BICS expands its offering in submarine backhauling

The international communications enabler, BICS, has announced an exclusive new fibre route between Torino in Italy and Lausanne in Switzerland, along with five new points-of-presence (PoPs), which takes its global footprint to 130 PoPs. The new route is part of the company’s submarine backhauling strategy to connect submarine cables coming from Asia and Africa onto the European continent.
The new route will reduce the latency of traffic coming out of Italy by 40% for voice, data and IP services; while new PoPs in Warsaw, Stockholm, Prague, Helsinki and Copenhagen will provide access to IP services such as Cloud Connect, Remote Peering and Carrier Ethernet. The company has also upgraded existing PoPs in Moscow and Kiev to double the capacity of those sites.
BICS’ strategy is to provide an end-to-end service to customers across Europe to meet demand for low-latency connectivity and IP-based services.
Johan Wouters, Senior Vice President, Capacity Solutions, BICS, said: “Latency is becoming a key differentiator for our customers, and as such a critical element in our network expansion plans…the new fibre route between Torino and Lausanne and the strategically placed new PoPs ensure we can optimise key routes, so that we can offer the best quality of service with the lowest possible latency.”
