African wholesaler, Liquid Telecom, which provides fibre optic, satellite and international carrier services to Africa’s mobile service providers, ISPs and businesses, has announced that it has added 5G services to its mix.
Liquid Telecom’s wholesale 5G network will help accelerate the evolution of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in South Africa, the company says. “This breakthrough 5G wholesale service will create innovation in every aspect of South African society and industry,” said Liquid Telecom’s chairman, Strive Masiyiwa.
Liquid Telecom has been investing heavily in both mobile and fibre connectivity, launching a land-based fibre link connecting East and West Africa in November 2019. The East to West Africa link between Kinshasa (DRC) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) connected citizens of DRC to the company’s 70,000km fibre network, and beyond that to the rest of the world. It also significantly reduced latency for traffic transiting Africa.
