The Italian operator WindTre has selected Ericsson BSS to support the launch and monetisation of its 5G service offering across both B2C and B2B markets.
WindTre’s CTO Benoit Hanssen commented: “Ericsson BSS will play a critical role in supporting WindTre to offer an even higher-quality service and to develop important 5G solutions for consumers and enterprises.”
As the company’s 5G penetration continues to climb – reaching 93.1% in mid-June 2021 – it has entered the mass commercialisation phase, launching a number of new tariffs in 2021. These provide features such as unlimited voice calls, bundled SMS, 5G network access and tiered inclusive data. Its “Medium” 5G package, for example, provides 50Gb of inclusive data, unlimited voice calls and 200 SMS for EUR12.99 per month. Depending on the package and handset, WindTre’s 5G bundles also include 5G-compatible smartphones at low or no upfront cost to the subscriber.
Emanuele Iannetti, Head of Ericsson Italy and South East Mediterranean, said his company was pleased to be collaborating with WindTre. “Our end-to-end BSS solutions will enable WindTre to monetise all the advanced operations and performances that 5G enables today and be ready for what’s coming tomorrow.”
