Sky UK and Brookfield Utilities UK Group (BUUK) have announced a strategic partnership that will see Sky obtaining wholesale access to BUUK’s network.
BUUK connects UK new-build homes to its full fibre network, with around 50,000 FTTH installations at present. However, the company plans to rapidly increase the number of new homes it connects, with the goal of connecting 200,000 new builds over the next 12 months.
This deal sees Sky become the anchor tenant for broadband services in developments connected by BUUK and builds on an existing commercial arrangement whereby Sky TV is made available to homes connected by BUUK using their FTTH via a Fibre Integrated Reception System (FIRS).
Sky has previously worked with TalkTalk and Cityfibre in York, so this marks the third alternative provider to BT that they are now working with. BUUK’s sister companies are Open Fibre Networks Ltd and GTC.
