Unitel Mongolia is a provider of mobile, IPTV, broadband Internet, DTH satellite, OTT, fiber optic, fixed phone, content production and distribution. It is one of four main operators in Mongolia.
Mongolia is a “mobile first” market for both communication and data services such as mobile broadband. This is primarily because it is a large but sparsely populated country of about 3.5 million people, with 55% of its population living in rural areas. Around 25% of its population are nomadic herdsmen.
The mobile market matured quickly in Mongolia and had exceeded 100% penetration by 2013. Growth in the last 5 years has been slow to moderate and has focused on connecting the last few hundreds of thousands of unconnected customers. Fixed line penetration in the country is low (estimated at around 2%).
In recent years, Unitel has focused on innovative services to connect the unconnected such as the launch of Ger Internet in 2017 – a ‘plug and play’ wireless home broadband Wi-Fi solution which is based on Unitel’s LTE network and can provide download speeds of up to 225Mbit/s.
In the next stage of its digital transformation, Unitel has decided to leverage solutions from CSG and Tango Telecom, including CSG‘s billing and customer management solution SingleView and its Interconnect product for managing wholesale, settlement, cost and revenue allocation. Unitel will also use CSG’s Total Service Mediation for realtime usage management and CDR collections, and CSG Activation for provisioning and activation. Tango Telecom will contribute DRE (Data Retail Engine) for real-time charging and policy control.
The new solution will enable Unitel to deliver a wide range of services including prepaid and postpaid mobile, VoIP, IPTV, WTTx broadband access, enterprise services, and DTH and OTT TV.
