BT is rolling out the snappily named BT Connect Cisco SD-WAN managed service, which sits within BT’s Dynamic Network Service programme.
Cisco is providing a centrally-managed, cloud-hosted and software-defined overlay. In addition to this technology, which it acquired from Viptela in 2017, Cisco contributes a centre of excellence which supports customers to design, deliver, and evolve their SD-WAN. BT contributes orchestration, application performance management, routing, in-life management, reporting and analytics, as well as a choice of SD-WAN security.
According to Keith Langridge, BT’s vice president of network services, over 90% of BT’s global WAN customers use Cisco technology. “The vast majority ask us to manage it,” he says.
BT and Cisco also co-operate on BT Connect Edge, a customer premises equipment virtualisation solution, and BT Connect Services Platform, a network automation and orchestration software platform.
This latest addition to the portfolio joins BT Agile Connect – a collaboration between Nokia’s Nuage Networks, Cisco and BT – as well as Cisco IWAN and Cisco Meraki SD-WAN.
BT joins Orange in using Cisco-Viptela, with Orange announcing its partnership earlier this year.
